Legendary New York DJ Paul Cavalconte is on location at the Recess gallery in Soho to celebrate the Beatles White Album

We’re on location this week in New York’s Soho district at the Recess gallery where artist Rutherford Chang opened his store to display nothing but used copies of the Beatles’ WHITE ALBUM. His show, We Buy White Albums, contains 650 numbered first-pressings of the 1968 self-titled Beatles album presented here in an interactive exhibit. We’re also going to play some unique interpretations of the album’s songs.

Host Paul Cavalconte has collected and played records since Scruffy The Tugboat on a yellow plastic 7-inch 78 rpm record. And that was last year. No seriously, he was 4. He took it into the bathtub every Saturday night. It was a real clean record. At 19 he became a DJ in New York City on WFUV. At 52, he also became a DJ in New York City on WFUV.

Below are the front and back covers of artist Rutherford Chang’s The White Album released in a limited edition of 800 copies, each included a 24″x24″ poster featuring images of other original covers displayed in the exhibit.

The cover art was comprised of composite overlays of the weathered and defaced originals displayed in the exhibit, many of which were doctored by their young owners who used the pristine surface as a canvas for messages and doodles.
